Batman - The Dark Knight

I went to see this movie last night and the movie was ok and I understand all the hype behind it only because that’s what they do these days. Hype the living shit out of every movie that comes out.

What I don’t understand is this Heath Ledger as the Joker hype. His role was fine but his character while of course important to the movie did not make the movie. I thought with all the Heath hype it would have or should have brought the movie over the top.

Let’s compare it to the first Batman movie where Jack Nicholson as the Joker literally made that movie. Without him playing the role the way he did the Batman franchise probably would never had seen a second sunrise.

Anybody else see The Dark Knight? Am I missing something here or did they pump Heath Ledger’s role up because he kicked it? I think so. Jack still rules as the Joker to me.

Fish Report - Catalina 7/02/08

Met up with fellow poker player and fisherman Warren and his buddy Chris at 11:00pm Tues, loaded the boat, fueled up, hit the water about 12:30AM.

Got a fatty scoop of squid from LBBC and made tracks for the squid grounds at Catalina. The ride over had some nice sized rollers coming through and a little bumpy at times but overall wasn’t too bad. Something did go bump in the night but we were only doing 10MPH so all was good with the outdrive and we kept going.

We rounded the east end, no moon very dark shrouded in a haze, wind in the face and swell coming in. No radar, wasn’t comfy and didn’t have mommy with me to make me feel comfortable so we headed to back to the front to wait for light.

On the front side at light we had a steady pick of as many calicos you wanted. Virtually every cast. But that wasn’t what we wanted to we headed to the back side again. Due to weather and my mommy not being there I decided against the west end and went east.

Once again we made the turn expecting to see many other boats lined up. All we saw was the Phantom at the Vs and down the line a row of squid boats and a couple of PBers off Silver Canyon. I decided to stop at a spot at the Vs where I had caught the first YT and WSB on my current boat but Tino had other plans. As I made tracks to the spot he apparently had the same idea and jetted inside himself. It looked like he was pulling anchor on the outside of the kelp and probably had already planned to be there, no harm as we pulled in on the other side of the kelp.

First bait out I had a bite that went zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzPOW. Nice fish that wasn’t stopping on my 30lb rig. Next up was a shovelnose, mud marlin, another mud marlin, MOVE. By this time the Phantom had moved too so I know that spot wasn’t working out.

We head down to Salsipuedes and work our way back for a lot of nothing, back to the front for more nothing. Head home at 2:00pm in a lot of wind and chop. In bed at 7:00Pm

Thought For The Day

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.
OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel.
Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.
Can’t buy it? Tough! Eat your oil!
Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled filet of camel ass!!!

Update for 6/18/08 - Looking For Work and a Fishing Tournament

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything so here’s a quick update.

I’ve decided to get a job! I need to get affordable insurance and with my son playing hockey, insurance is a must. Plus a steady paycheck will be nice. I’ve been working from home and/or playing poker to make ends meet. I don’t really do a lot of high end marketing so work is not real consistent in that area. With the economy taking a dump, poker has dried up of all the fish with disposable income. Sure was nice when they were around, money was easy to come by then.

After I finish this post I’ll be calling a company back to hopefully setup an interview. Their product performs retinal and fingerprint scans then searches a database for background checks used by government agencies. Who knows maybe I’ll be part of “Big Brother” soon.

This weekend I’ll be fishing in the Bloodydecks Yellowtail Shootout. Big prizes big money to be made there. Pics coming soon.

Al Gore Is A Moron -Ties Cyclone to Global Warming

Although last year scientists showed proof that hurricanes (same as a cyclone) were not a result of this global warming nonsense, although it’s been proven time and time again that global warming is a natural earth cycle. Al Gore still shoves his stupid ass agenda down our throats.

Al Gore, you are an idiot!!

Al Gore says that the cyclone in Myanmar is a result of global warming. He told NPR yesterday:

And as we’re talking today, Terry, the death count in Myanmar from the cyclone that hit there yesterday has been rising from 15,000 to way on up there to much higher numbers now being speculated. And last year a catastrophic storm from last fall hit Bangladesh. The year before, the strongest cyclone in more than 50 years hit China – and we’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.

Gore said that because ocean temperatures are on the rise, extreme and dangerous weather is also on the rise.

96 Arrested in San Diego State Drug Busts

By ALLISON HOFFMAN Associated Press Writer

SAN DIEGO (AP) – An undercover drug probe focused on San Diego State University and some of its fraternities has led to arrests of 96 people, including 75 students, authorities said Tuesday.

Eighteen of the students were arrested Tuesday when nine search warrants were executed at various locations including fraternities, said Jesse Rodriguez, San Diego County assistant district attorney.

apdrugbust3.jpgapdrugbust1.jpg During the probe investigators discovered that in some fraternities most members were aware of “organized drug dealing occurring from the fraternity houses by its members,” the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said in a statement.

“Undercover agents purchased cocaine from fraternity members and confirmed that a hierarchy existed for the purpose of selling drugs for money,” the DEA said.
Authorities said they found drugs being moved in resale quantities.

“We’re talking about trafficking,” Stephen Weber, SDSU president, told a news conference.

The district attorney’s office said search warrants were served in San Diego and suburban La Mesa, including the Theta Chi fraternity house and several apartments.

A member of Theta Chi sent out a mass text message to his “faithful customers” stating that he and his “associates” would be unable to sell cocaine while they were in Las Vegas over one weekend, according to the DEA. The text promoted a cocaine “sale” and listed the reduced prices. (more…)

Thanks For Making Americans Look Stooopid

I want to thank this stupid broad for making Americans look bad.

I support what she’s saying but if you are going to bitch about people not speaking
the language, maybe you should first learn to spell when using the English language.

Tito Ortiz - Huntington Beach Bad Boy

He was once an online betting lock. He’s the guy who beats people up for a living in a cage and dates mega porn star Jenna Jameson. He’s arrogant, cocky, and controversial, hated by millions and doesn’t give a damn. Above all, he’s the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz.

Love or hate him, Ortiz is one bad dude with a vicious animalistic type ground and pound game, which he’ll attempt to display when he faces undefeated Karate master Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida at UFC 84 on Saturday, May 24.

UFC betting fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will welcome Ortiz to the Octagon with a thunderous chorus of boos and one finger salutes when he goes to war with Machida. But if the Ortiz haters in attendance and watching on pay-per-view around the world bets against the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” based solely on hatred, it could be a very costly mistake.

Tito Ortiz - Huntington Beach Bad Boy  [ad]

The former UFC light heavyweight champion has a 16-5-1 record that’s misleading. In the past seven years, Ortiz has only lost to two fighters – the heavyweight champion of the world Randy Couture and the former light heavyweight champion of the world Chuck Liddell (twice).

During that span, Ortiz beat the legendary Ken Shamrock three times in dominating fashion. In the most recent fight against Shamrock, he posted a knock out in round one. The first two fights Ortiz won by way of technical knock out.

Like many UFC wagering fans, BetUS UFC odds aren’t giving the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” any love or respect. He’s listed the underdog at +175 against Machida (-220), who’s putting his perfect 12-0-0 record on the line.

Machida is a Brazilian native that’s a relatively unknown fighter to UFC betting enthusiasts. His karate skills make him a technician that doesn’t rely on explosive power. Machida likes to keep distance between himself and opponents while looking for mistakes and opportunities to counter.

Three of his last four fights in the Octagon were won by unanimous decisions which raise questions about his finishing abilities. Especially when you consider the three fights that were left in the hands of the judges came versus lesser fighters in the likes of Kazuhiro Nakamura, David Heath and Sam Hoger. Machida won his last fight by submission (choke) over Rameau Sokoudjou, but he too is a lesser fighter.

Ortiz is a very different animal compared to Machida’s recent competition and this will be his first real test. There’s a big contrast in fighting styles between the two. Ortiz has a ”bulldog” mentality and will be the aggressor. If the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” takes “The Dragon” to the mat and begins his relentless ground and pound onslaught, which is a perfect counter to karate style fighters, it will be lights out for Machida.

At the age of 33, this is most likely the last run at a title fight for Ortiz. Despite being criticized for promoting his own clothing line, taking a stab at acting and appearing at photo shoots with his girlfriend, his lifestyle outside of the Octagon will have no impact as Ortiz begins his journey towards a final title shot.

With an ego as big as his head, it’s easy to wager against the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy”. But if you bet on UFC action from the heart, you’re bankroll will quickly tap out. There’s great value on Ortiz if you wager on UFC action, and it’s a lock he’ll be a lively dog that’s ready to bang when he enters the cage on May 24th.

Our Health Care System Is A Mess

Our health care system is a mess, or at least it is at Orange Coast Memorial Center in Fountain Valley, California

My 16 year old son has had a severe immobilizing headache for 17 days. 2 of those days he was ok only to get hit again and even worse the next day.

We went to the ER five times, to his doc once, the Neurologist twice and chiropractor three times, two CT scans, an MRI and all blood work done. Only on the last trip to the ER did they do a spinal tap. At this point he had missed over 2 weeks of school. All the docs can say is everything looks fine but we’ll give you more drugs to take home.

He’s a healthy kid, plays hockey and surfs a lot. One of the scans was of his neck and spine and all that checked out ok too. He doesn’t do drugs, we spend most of our time together there really isn’t time for him to do them. He really has nothing to be stressed about and I think he would have told me when I asked him. We’re very close and we talk about a lot of things.

Anyway he still had this near crippling headache and we couldn’t figure out why. Go see a doctor get more drugs is all they could do. That is until our last visit to the ER at which time I told the doctor we weren’t going anywhere until someone figured out why this was happening or put a plan in place to figure it out what was going on. This ER doc was the first that took the situation as serious as I took it. (more…)
